I may have slightly overdone the old caffeine. 700mg over a 3.5hr period (equates to 9mg/kg - high but by no means uncharted territory, and from what I gather still comparatively safe).

I'm now suffering all the effects of acute caffeine overdose - jitters, irritability (internally too if you get me ... ), excessive urination, light headedness, overly sensitive to touch and just generally feeling shit.

Just wondered if anyone had any advice more useful than "ride it out"?

drink lots of water , i wonder how long u will be up for... haha good luck buddy

If you've got benzos, they would help. Some alcohol might help too.

I probably drink that caffeine in my morning coffees on an average work day. You'll be fine.

i think i drink at least 1000 mgs a day.u will be fine, caffeine overdose sucks.

Moving from HOMELESS to Healthy Living.

I second the advice on riding it out and taking a benzo if you have one.

Lots of water will flush your system out, but also lots of milk will help you. if you like caffeine, space it out , use half the doze you usually take use a larger cup (mug) and add plenty of milk in it! Also go for a run, you will exhaust some of the raised adrenaline in your system!

Only if the person overdoes it, but a mild exercise will help. A high cardiovascular increase will perhaps become dangerous, but a milder exercise, even a walk to reduce the arythmia the higher blood pressure and agitation, may assist.

Thats not good in the long run. You'll suffer the consequences later in life with effects of not being able to sleep well, irritability, depression, weakened heart, health problems, stained teeth.

Are you sure? That's a lot of caffeine. A 12 fl oz. Starbucks coffee contains ~240mg.

I went through a period of popping 4x50mg caffeine pills every hour I was at work to make the day go quicker, but even with a fairly substantial tolerance, I could never really bring myself to do it on the sixth hour.

I've noticed that a certain point, the "high" (if you can even really call it that) you get from caffeine becomes null and void...

It used to be, I could take a shot of espresso (when I had no tolerance) and almost feel like I just bumped a line of coke for a few minutes. These days, the only "jump" I get from caffeine is if I take it all at once in a 200mg pill, which I usually do before a workout to get the blood flowing quicker (and motivate me to do more).

My regular morning coffee just keeps the headache away :\ I really should lay off the stuff.

Also go for a run, you will exhaust some of the raised adrenaline in your system!

This is horrendous advice!!

It seems some people imagine adrenaline to be a sort of fuel. Adrenaline is a signaling agent that does many things, such as make you afraid, and also stimulate your heart to beat faster.

If you run (or do anything to exert yourself) on caffeine, not only will you not "exhaust adrenaline", but in fact tell your body to make more!

Your attempts at Harm Reduction are always appreciated, but don't post false advice if you don't know what you're talking about...

So is it generally inadvisable to have caffeine before a workout? Or is it ok in small amounts?

I'll usually take between 100-200mg, but I've got a pretty good tolerance. It doesn't make me jittery or anxious at all.

^^Shit I love it pre-workout. Whether it's running a few miles, or lifting weights. If it's going down in the morning, caffeine will have to come first. I actually read a study on how caffeine does not cause all the serious heart conditions you always hear of. Of course you don't want to drink 5 pots before you try to run a couple miles.

Keep it smart and I think it does wonders for enegry throughout a workout.

please, where are you coming off with that? There have been scientific facts in sports and work outs, of the effect of caffeine prior to a sports event!

None of those articles are aimed at Harm reduction, or levels of caffeine as high as we're talking about though. By the same logic those articles follow, we could say that amphetamines or cocaine are good for exercise.

Sure, a cup of strong coffee before you work out might not be an awful idea, it might make you push yourself that little bit more, but going for a run with 700mg of caffeine pumping through your system, and noticeable heart palpitations to try and calm and lessen the unpleasant overdose symptoms does seem a little foolish if you ask me.

No, I just refered to cafeine in general and a saying exercise, or a walk, as it releases the energy that has been produced by the cafeine, reducing its effect in the system, if you are shaking because the cafeine as a stimulant has brought agitation, and feeling "on the go" as you are sitting on all that energy that is produced, rather then using it!

Going for a walk, will exert it out in kinetics. You don't need to stress yourself out, but just energy in motion, will reduce the effect it has, as a stimulant, just sitting in a nutral position, where your body has to find a way in excreting it is that better?

I have clarified the exertion of a saying exercise (a run), instead going for a mild walk-on post 8.

I didn't pay proper attention-to the 700mg though, I was generalizing on the effects of caffeine as in general. Yep in that situation, it is dangerous even as is though I have gone for a walk before upon advise and it has assisted much! I think I placed that consideration though in my second post.

I had taken once a drink with a lot of caffein which brought all those undesired affects, tha tI could not cope with them. I was in fact advised to use it in energy, since the stimulant in my system was producing it, and on a mild run/brink walk, as much as I could stand it, it brought the relief pretty fast. I also kept drinking water all along.

You should not be taking so much caffeine anyway to start with, it is dangerous on its own, as is.

If you take 200mg, 6 hours later, you still have 100mg in your system, why doing something stupid as an overload.?

To the OP:

Belated, but perhaps still useful for those who find this thread via searches:

I'm afraid the best you can do is simply ride it out. Some of those symptoms should start to dissipate within a few hours. In the meantime, some mild exercise could certainly help keep you calm. Stay hydrated with sports drinks, or if you're going to simply drink lots of water, do so with a normal amount of food.

Regarding caffeine as an ergogenic aid: its efficacy doesn't have much to do with the stimulant effects of the substance. Even non-naive caffeine users, who don't derive any stimulant effects from regular use, benefit from a moderate amount of caffeine prior to working out.

But it's certainly an effective aid, when used in moderate doses and responsibly.

It's safe, to be sure, and you might find it to benefit your motivation.

What Jamshyd said, though, is that in 'overdose' situations (very uncomfortable but not physically dangerous), exercise won't be useful in 'burning off' adrenalin (because exercise will impel the body to release more adrenalin and stimulate its production). Even mentally, exercise won't be too useful, as it will push pulse and BP to even higher, more uncomfortable levels. At moderate dosages, exercise might prove more beneficial.

ebola

alcohol --> dehydration

depressants though will help BP & heart rate

opiates will inhibit your bladder and help retain fluids and keep your gastrointestinal sys normalized, and decrease restlessness/insomia/jitters/BP/HR/ETC/ETC/ETC

careful w/ doses of course

caffeine and working out, itll make your heart word harder than you should. if youre young and have no heart probs, you wont die, but im pretty sure itll take off a few days off the end of your life :)
